(In making successful films), No matter how easy it looks on the outside it’s a very difficult struggle. With most people you don’t see the struggle aspect of a person’s life you only see the success they’ve had. But I haven’t met anybody that hasn’t been able to describe years and years and years of of very difficult struggle through the whole process of achieving anything. The secret is to not give up hope and it’s very hard not to. Because if you’re really doing something worthwhile you will be pushed to the brink of hopelessness before you come out of the other side. My first 6 years in the business was hopeless. Lots of times I asked myself “Why am I doing this? I’ll never make it.” It took me years for me to get my first film off the ground. Most of the films I’ve made haven’t worked. 40% of my films have successful. That’s a very high percentage next to most people who maybe have 10-15% work.
